We live in a country branded as war-torn and conflict affected where death due to conflict is the 5th top mortality cause whereas the top four mortality causes are diseases such as influenza and pneumonia. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) an estimated 6 million of our people have no access or limited access to healthcare. This outlines Aria Medica’s aim to address unmet medical needs, where the level of pharmaceutical contribution and satisfaction remains low. The Journey started in 2016 on the pathway towards a healthy community in Afghanistan envisioning access to quality pharmaceuticals at an affordable price ensured from urban areas to remote villages across the country. We, at Aria Medica, believe in innovation, excellence and responsibilities working towards improvement of health services and health quality of our own Afghans. Since the establishment, Aria Medica has overcome numerous difficulties and challenges approaching an underdeveloped sector, with a lack of infrastructure, policies as well as technical staff. Aria Medica’s management has set up a team of the country’s most experienced and skilled national as well as international experts, where each team member’s ability to go beyond common practices that apply elsewhere but require flexible, practical solutions to the very unique specific and challenging context of Afghanistan, has been very crucial to the establishment Aria Medica as well as designing its projects and health services. Working in one of the country’s most challenging sector is a difficult mission itself, in order to realise the vision of Aria Medica, it requires a strong commitment and tireless efforts of a strong qualified team.
